Perhaps small buttons for the navigation menu, in place of textlinks. Only in one table.
Better rating. It would nice, when you click on an star menu, when you would like to rate.
How much have vote for the picture. Now we can only see how much comments.
Picture vs Picture page. Like that http://www.car-vs-car.de/tuning-duell.php :)
Morgan says: Text links will remain so people can translate the phrases. Not sure what you mean about the ratings, as there currently is a drop down menu. See count of how many votes added to the list. Not sure about the picture versus picture thing.

Hi Morgan,
Thanks for adding my 2.1.4 requests to your list.
In relation to this request, would it be possible to modify vB to UNION ALL the two different comment sets then sort the two queries by date?
Another possibility would be to add a second table below the New Posts table showing the gallery comments there.
Content visible to registered users only.
Morgan says: vB has its own columns and criteria for searching forums, as these are different than PhotoPlog so the separate box will remain like on this (http://www.photoplog.com/forum/search.php?do=getdaily) page, though if you now do a forum search, that will also search the files and comments in PhotoPlog, and is slated for the pro v.2.1.5 release.

I think this feature would be very useful for those that use photoplog on photography website with quata limits:
-Deletion request. Instead of letting users delete their entries instantly, place it in a moderator-approved delition queue.
Morgan says: Thinking on this, not sure at this point. A user could email the request, or maybe something could be added to the report feature.

For your consideration:
Imagemagick support.
User favorites. Edit: By this I mean somehow a user gallery with all the pictures selected by users as favorites, maybe a template addable to the user profile.
Tags/keywords, searchable if possible, but a cloud would be much more useful.
Morgan says: ImageMagick support added to the list. Albums are already available to store user favorites, and public albums can be shown on the profile page. For tags/keywords, a custom field could be added, and custom fields are searched. Also custom fields can be different for various categories, or you can have the same custom fields across all categories. Clouds can be resource intensive so it is doubtful that such a feature would be added.

The only thing I'm really missing, is to be able to add big categories with headline.
What I mean is to be able to add a a category like in the vbulletin Software. The problem is that we have a lot of differen categories a year and every year we need the same categories every year and to create subcategories it is to confusing. So heres what I mean for example:
2006
-------Leagues
-------Players
--------------Supcategories....
2007
-------Leagues
-------Players
--------------Supcategories...
2008
and so on....
I think this would be a much better overview...
is this possible ??
I made a little fake screenshot to because else it's hard to explain what I mean.
Morgan says: This type of layout is possible with pro v.2.1.4 and up.

Currently it is possible to rate a picture and stay anonymous. Since some of my users have experienced some misuse of this, i'd like to ask if it would be possible to add the (optional) option to show the people who voted, just like the vbulletin-polls.
Example:
Vote: Excellent
(user 1, user 2, user 3, user 4)
Vote: Good
(user 5, user 6, user 7)
etc.

Hook locations so its easier to add to the gallery front end, not nesecarily gallery specific addons either but other vb addons could also get plugged in.
Edit: then again I see this may be lined up for 2.1.4 ? If so juts kick me up the *** for not reading the other thread first. :D

Suggestion to 2.1.4 features and other feature requests for 2.1.5:
-> Vary title on FTP Import
(1) I want the option in the ftp upload that it takes the photo name without the .jpg as the photoplog title though I guess I will have to use dashes to separate words in the title. What about the description and tags? Will we have to add them only after all the photos are uploaded via ftp? This has already mean requested by a few on the forum.
(2) Is there a moderation and approval for ftp uploaded files? If not, please add it. It may be required when photoplog supports upload of other media and zip files. Also an option to add somewhere in the ftp dialog the ftp username, password and server to the photoplog ftp directory so that members can directly upload via ftp.
(3) An option to add title, description and keywords to each photo we upload in bulk via the web upload boxes. Presently there is only one such title, description and keyword box. I have requested this feature long time back.
Morgan says: For one and three, please see this (http://www.photoplog.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1330) thread. For two, moderation of FTP imported files is already possible, but a user name/password will not be added to the upload form, as persons with that information could use an FTP client to upload various types of files. For example, you accidentally allow guests to FTP import files. Tip: You should only give FTP Import permission to absolutely trustworthy persons.
-> Add a members list
(4) I want an option to hide the members list.
Morgan says: It is already possible to add gallery information to the vB member list. It is unlikely that a separate member list will be created.
-> Ability for public albums
(5) If I switch the album option off for unregistered users who are not logged in, they are not able to even see the albums made by others. I think the Album permissions should be separated into five like the others: View Albums, Create Albums, Edit Albums and Moderate Albums i.e. approve them before they are visible. Once I approve the album name, I don't want even members to be able to edit the Album names. That would solve all problems and would make the Albums feature perfect.
Morgan says: Albums are akin to subscribing to a thread, i.e., a way to mark your favorites, and the ability for public albums is already possible. Not sure about the other requests. Will think more about it.
(6) RSS feeds for Categories, Subcats and Albums. Some people are interested in photos of only a specific category so they can monitor it.
Morgan says: It is already possible to retrieve records for a feed from a specific category. However, as albums are user specific, there are no plans to retrieve records for a feed by user.
(7) Editing of an uploaded photo or comment to go for approval again for non-admins. Does that work presently? If not please add that option for moderation.
Morgan says: It is already possible to moderate edited files and comments.
(8) Flash or javascript widgets and blocks to insert in other html webpages outside of vbulletin with randomly changing and clickable images.
Morgan says: There are some threads on how to show thumbnails on non-vB pages. Plus, an RSS/XML parser could be used on the PhotoPlog feed to do this as well. If interested in the latter, see Example 2583 here (http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.xml.php). As there is no way to be certain of the setup of every persons non-vB pages (e.g., he uses static HTML, he uses PHP classes, they use something else, etcetera), anyone interested in placing gallery content on non-vB pages will need to write something specific for his/her site.
(9) Important: Support for upload and display of other media files like flv, mp4, mp3, wmv, avi, rm etc. and zip document or pdf etc. files.
Morgan says: Support for other media files added to the list.
(10) A flv video and/or mp3 audio clip upload for each photo which shows up as in embedded flash video or audio player something like www.zooomr.com. There should be a link to download the photo video or mp3 clip also. A free flash mp3 player which can be used like this one (http://www.enricolai.com/FMP3/XSPF-player-extended-version.asp) and free flv players are available. The info link on this player can be used to link to the photo url or the link to the mp3 audio file. This will help to use photoplog as a multimedia video or audio photo story board which is getting popular.
(11) Geotagging of images and integration with Google maps again like www.zooomr.com with rollover popup buttons for lightbox etc.
Morgan says: For ten and eleven, other things need to be done before even considering those type of features, i.e., not now and not sure about later.
auto posts a thumbnail and description to a designated forum and or thread
Morgan says: This is possible using the vB RSS Feed Manager. You can add ?count=X&cid=Y to the PhotoPlog feed link to retrieve X records from catid Y and set the Forum to receive the posts in the vB RSS Feed Manager. An example of how it will look is here (http://www.photoplog.com/forum/showthread.php?t=669).

i think it would be good if one could re-arrange photos within a category, once they are uploaded.
Morgan says: Right now you can order the results by Newest Uploads, Most Viewings, Highest Ratings, Most Comments, and Newest Comments. Also, there are the photoplog_index_sortsql and photoplog_index_sorttitle hooks that can be used to change the ORDER BY portion of the query, if you want to add additional options.

I think #1 on our list would be increased user friendlyness for albums. We rely quite a bit on Albums to provide user specific groupings of images as we're not really using photoplog like a photography site but as the gallery component of a significantly more complex site. In our particular usage, albums are very important for folks to be able to build their own groupings of images, the way it works right now is pretty awkward when adding images to an album. Each time you add an image you have to work your way back to add another one, we'd *vastly* prefer to be able to check multiple images (kind of the way moderation works in vBulletin) and add them to an album all at one time. That way (to fall back on an irrelevant bunny hunting example) a member could run a search for all images of lop eared bunnies, and then check 10 images that they'd like to come back to later and add them all to an album at once. The way it is now they tend to get frustrated and give up 'cause it's too labor intensive.
Basically Albums look to have great potential to provide members with a way to build "views" of the gallery in the DB sense, if they were easier to build and could be shared they would add tremendous flexibility to the system overall.
'K. That's probably more than sufficient verbal spewage for the moment... Thanks for listening/reading!

I'd like to have some options on the image selection popup controlling how the image gets inserted. Including the ability for the admin to add custom bbcodes to use.
For instance, I've added the standard IMGLEFT and IMGRIGHT bbcodes to my board, that let you wrap text around a left or right justified image. It would be great to have a group of options on the image selector popup, so I can specify if I want "normal", "flow left" or "flow right" formatting when the image is inserted into the editor, using the bbcode titles as the option strings.
It would also be neato nifty peachy keen if there was an abbreviated upload form on the menu, which would then combine the process of uploading the image and inserting the link. But I realize this may not be trivial. So I'll justs tick with asking for the custom formatting options for now. :)
-- hugh
Morgan says: As custom BB Codes can be added via the ACP and made available to the end user via the editor, there are no plans to add BB Codes to the pop-up selector.

I've been thinking about this quite a bit and thought I should probaby post a somewhat clearer, more comprehensive version of the above suggestion:
I *REALLY* think that expanding the album functionality is the solution to the user centric view of the gallery.
1. Albums need to be a LOT easier to build. The Album it! link is great, but you have to dig your way back out each time, it'd be sooo much nicer to be able to multi-select images to add to an album and then do it in a batch, much like vBulletin handles post moderation.
Morgan says: Addressed two posts up.
2. It'd be wonderful to have a default "Member's Pictures" album that holds links to every picture the member has uploaded. I'm guessing/hoping that it wouldn't be terribly hard to implement? If this could then be shared... Sweetness incarnate.
Morgan says: To see every picture a member has uploaded visit /photoplog/index.php?u=X where X is the userid for that member.
3. Problem: The viewing functionality has some major usability quirks for albums/thumbnails in posts. The current system has you clicking an image which then brings up the large thumbnail in the gallery view, and as Tim so rightly pointed out in the pre-sales forum, you're now looking at the galleries instead of the images from the album. You also need to click the large thumnail AGAIN to get the image full size. For those that aren't using it as a Photography site, it's pretty cumbersome and fairly non-intuitive for the members.
3 Solution: Instead, I'd suggest that clicking on a thumnail in an Album (and in a post too for that matter) could bring up the image in a new, vastly simplified viewing page that comes up in a new browser. Basically this page would show just the full size image, with the stats, description, custom fields and other related text info listed at the bottom. This way you DO have a fully user centric way to view the gallery images, and you GREATLY increase the functionality of the system with really not that many actual changes.
Morgan says: As of pro v.2.1.4.6 Highslide integration is available where you can set what size image you want to see in the Highslide pop-up window via the ACP for thumbnails appearing in the gallery, and there is an option to apply Highslide to images that are dropped into forum posts from the PhotoPlog selector pop-up window. IIRC it is not currently possible to apply Highslide to an already Highslide-ed image, but in several instances in the gallery there is a link to go to the view file page where more information can be seen.
I understand that there may well be some fairly extensive underlying system changes that would need to happen to implement the user centric gallery view in an optimum way, but I'm hoping that the above outlines what might be a reasonable way to implement it with a fairly low amount of coding effort for a high degree of functionality gained?
::shrug:: Hopefully this is fairly intelligible, I'm fighting the flu and hopped up on caffine atm, the combination tends to make my fingers run a bit ahead of my brain at times, so I have to appologize in advance for any communication failures on my part.

It would be nice to see the option for member albums linked to their vb profiles, such that those in the requisite vb usergroups with permission would get a button to "create an album", etc., that they can moderate, which would appear in a pre-configured Member Albums category. Guests viewing their profile could see a filmstrip or latest/random image, etc., as configured. Perhaps even an option for the number of albums/subalbums that can be created using vb usergroup permissions.
Can't wait for 2.1.4! I'm about to upgrade to Pro, so I hope the improvements keep coming. Great work!
Morgan says: Albums in PhotoPlog are akin to subscribing to threads where users can mark their favorites, and as of pro v.2.1.4 members can set their albums as public or private. If public it is possible to list those albums on the MEMBERINFO page as seen here (http://www.photoplog.com/forum/member.php?u=1) by editing a template.

i think an option to hardcode watermark in the images would be great, of course admin-selectable, as i don't think everybody would need an hardcoded logo in the images... i think a way of doing this would be to keep the 'original' image somewhere in the server filesystem, hardcode the logo in the reachable-image, so that, would i ever need to change the logo or move it to another position, it could be done rebuilding the thumbnails (and the reachable images, in this case)
this watermark feature is the only thing i'd really need more than what's in this code right now :)
thanks and keep the great work!
Morgan says: Option to hard watermark images added to the list, though all images as accessible so the hard waterwark would be irreversible.

Would be nice to be able to choose more rows for the "Newest Images" block.
Also a "My Images" link would be nice.
Shouldn't I post on the 2.1.4 thread? Is that version feature list closed?
Morgan says: My images link in gallery and column count for newest and random thumbs added to the list. Rows would automatically be determined from the number of thumbs to show and column count.
It would be nice to be able to block access to the original image for selected usergroups and categories.
I would like to have people pay a subscription to download the full size images.
Morgan says: As the original image is stored in a web accessible location by default, if a person knows the link, s/he would be able to access it unless you block original images using an htaccess file. There is an htaccess file generator here (http://www.htaccesstools.com/hotlink-protection/). Not sure if/when pay-to-view would be implemented.

I really don`t know if it`s already possible, but I added a custom field, where users can set a copyright for that picture.
So it would be great, when that text would be set as the watermark !
because not every pic is free of copyrights....

Just a clarification about my albums wish-list.
As it is now, member albums are not user-friendly. It would be nice to have a "create album" link, then while in the new album, have the ability to create child-albums, and the ability to upload pictures directly into that album. I'm not a big fan of the hunt-and-insert model of filling albums, though I see the uses for it in public, categorized galleries or "favorites" albums. Let me elaborate:
For user-centric galleries:
Example: I go on a family trip to Disney World and come back with a camera full of pix.
Enter main Member album (think of this as a bookcase).
Enter/create a "Vacation" child album (think of this as a helf).
Create an empty child album for "DisneyWorld 2007" (the actual "album").
I may even want to make more child albums (think page dividers in the "album") for "Plane Rides", "Hotel Antics", "Character Sightings", "Exciting Rides", etc.
I would upload pictures directly into the section I want, no hunting.
For public galleries, the current category/theme approach makes the most sense. By entering "tags" for your image uploads, you could dynamically generate a gallery cloud to go with hard-coded gallery themes. Just a thought.
For group/private album, the ability to create a group album with private members/moderators would allow for interesting group integration possibilities. They would work like a user gallery, but would have an owner (the user who created it), members (read only), moderators (write), no guests allowed.
As it is right now, I'm probably going to install a separate user-album-based addon to get the functionality I want. I'd prefer to have one product handling my image/album/gallery needs.
Thanks for a solid gallery product. I eagerly await each upgrade!

Content visible to registered users only.
This is very similar to what I was asking...
I run a motorcycle forum and we run into similar...
For example.
We have an album called 2007 pics, in which we have sub categories Group rides, track days, events.
Inside those it would be great for users to be able to create their own albums for events and then have other users add to that album with sub albums. i.e.
2007 Pics / Track Days / 5-6-2007 BIMP Track Day / User A's Pics
2007 Pics / Track Days / 5-6-2007 BIMP Track Day / User B's Pics
2007 Pics / Track Days / 5-6-2007 BIMP Track Day / User C's Pics
I create the first two levels, and the users could create the rest. People could create sub albums within a user created sub album...
As of right now, I think I am going to go back to just having people post pics in forums, since I can't get Photoplog pro organized the way I need.

What I would like added is more admin controls on each picture in the gallery and controls on each category. Similar to the way that vbulletin handles things like editing of posts in forum threads.
For example, say i'm looking at a picture that has a spelling mistake in its description and it's been placed in the wrong category, I would like the following options to appear if i was logged in as an admin.
Edit Description
Move Picture
Delete Picture
(maybe a few other choices)
Another idea is with categories, Today a member uploaded 7 pictures into a pre-made category which I wanted moved to another category which I had to create. I had to go to the admin panel to create this category, then mass move them (unless there is a way that I don't know about). I would prefer a system to select every picture that I wanted to move, scroll down to the bottom of the list and have a drop down menu that had options like, Delete and Move. If i clicked on delete it would remove all the selected pictures, If i selected Move then it would ask me which category to place them under, and if that category wasn't created yet it would give me the option to create a new one and then proceed to move those pictures into it. Similar to the way that vbulletin handles Private Messages.
It would be nice if this gallery system acted more like vbulletin then our users would find it easier to use.
First, let me congratulate you for creating such a great product.
I don't know if someone already requesed this feature, but I'd like to see a random thumbnail for every gallery instead of showing the latest image in the category list.
In addition, I'd appreciate if the images would be sorted alphabetically by their tiles.
Thanks in advance.

Just wanted to chime in supporting the varied titles and descriptions for multi-file uploads. The sets are great (it'd be nice to be able to specify a default for "Yes" or "No", or make it a required field, but ::shrug::), but we have a lot of members who upload a bunch of quite different pictures, and they almost never go back and update the descriptions/titles, as editing each image is slow/cumbersome. Maybe have a popup for each file upload? The same popup could be used as a quick editing method if the button to bring it up were added to the block/file_bit? The FTP upload is of (very) limited utility for us, but the file upload and the URL upload option both get heavy use.

Thanks pipin, that's exactly what I was going to say. Now that I've been playing around with sets more that's what's missing.
Possibly sets and Album functionality should be combined? Sets are great, but they need more flexibility and the ability to alter them.

It has come to my attention, that PhotoPlog creates and stores all pictures below the "images" folder just with simple numbers. Wouldn't it be better, to write all directories with its Usernames instead of numbers? That would be a better overview for all Admins. Isn't it? Just a thought ;) -Mike

Content visible to registered users only.Like I said. Some min's ago while I tried to search some special JDM Honda pics, I noticed that those pics which have been stored with my name, are damns hard to find. All I get are tons of pages.
What about to have a AJAX function what appears somewhere in the Letter Bar with the right Username to show the exact stored pictures of the member who saved them?
Example: In my forum we have a lot of Mikes and Michaels. When I try to find the right pics through finding of the Letter Bar, PhotoPlog always shows all usernames of 'M'. So I believe it'd be a really good idea that Photoplog make the search funktion kinda better to get better results. One good idea would be to create the stores pictures of directories with the same name like the Username. Say: Member: MikeD -> Created Directory: MikeD

one more thing that i make for my board:
the categorys and comments to moderate i put also to the adminindes
($hook = vBulletinHook::fetch_hook('admin_index_main1')) ? eval($hook) : false;
example: http://www.photoplog.com/forum/showthread.php?p=12645#post12645
nice future not have to go to the 2 sites to see if something is to moderate

I'd like to see a feature to make the picture private, that only administrator can see other then the user himself.
pretty much the same you can do with vbimagehost.
thanks

a summery of the last pages of my postings:
1. sortid for pictures
2. categoryimg (set this img als category thumb) so not the newest is shown, but this
3. hooks in acp
4. varied titles and descriptions for multi-file uploads

I agree wholeheartedly. I like uploading 10+ photos at a time and having a way to quickly and easily change titles would be awesome. Maybe have a post upload screen where you can enter different title and description for each photo.

I really like the new highslide feature and I think it would be great if also a slideshow is possible with that.
And another thing would be, a "next image" button that only loads the next picture and not reloads the whole site. Because the problem with this is, that on my gallery the user always has to be scrolling down to see the picture after he loads teh next one. To my mind and also our users this is not really comfortable.
If this could be changed the gallery is nearly perfect.

I'd like to ask for a way to put a pic in an album when uploading the pic.
1. there should be a much simpler way to make the image description independent from the forum post limit. I say make the Photoplog Image description fully independent, and add the options to either disable or enable mandatory descriptions with a word limit.
2. Gallery Navigation, i think that it is great currently, but can be customized to look better, this is just simple cosmetic changes that will and should make the gallery navigation seem less cluttered.

the ability of users to password one or more of their galleries
Request
1. Send to a friend, any picture like an e-card
2. SEO-ed galleries
3. Option for member galleries (photoplog.com/member) to show a calendar with all his pictures-history...

I found a really nice slideshow : http://smoothslideshow.jondesign.net/
I don't know if it's possible to integrate with photoplog, but it could be great.

Lower the image quality to lower the image filesize, as an admin option
this will save a lot of space and bandwith

after using this for awhile now, what would be real nice is when creating a new category is to have it be somewhat similar to "creating a new forum" in vbulletin, were you can choose what usergroup has access, is it publicly viewable, does it require a password etc.

Not sure if this has been requested, or if it already exists, but perhaps a modcp option to moderate categories?

A "hot or not" feature where users can rate pic by pic or pic versus pic.

it would be nice if the imagedescription would also be in the metatag
Requests:
1. A contest mode category will be great, where users can vote, with ranking, view who voted, etc.
2. Mid size image: admin define a medium image to be rendered, reducing bigger ones
3. Send ECard option
4. Option to have custom fields for users on their photoplog page (memcategories)
5. Option to show buddies for users on their photoplog page
6. Option for users to have favorite photoplog membercategories
7. Report a bad picture feature
8. Show XXX pics from Category YYY on Forum ZZZ

SEO enhancements.. if you don't want to tackle itself maybe you can hire someone to review the code and make suggestions, coding changes etc.
starting with making there be an option to make url's and in .html...
I really need some kind of filter when showing image listings...
I know it shows from last 30 days, but you should add filters like:
Show All images
Show from last Week
Show from today
Show 20 per page (pagination)
show 30 per page
Sort by most popular
Sort by most comment
This is really important for large sites! :D

a list of recent comments, instead of a list of recent commented photos (index.php?v=5).
the current page gives a view of which photos got new comments. but it should be a view of what comments have been posted recently.
