You can set up whatever categories you want in the gallery, but there is nothing to 'match' them to forums. You'd need to add some plugins and edit a few templates if you want a strip of random thumbs or a strip of newest thumbs from a particular gallery category to show on the forumdisplay page. Same goes for other pages other than forumhome and memberinfo, as those latter two are built-in by default.
